The LORD detests lying lips, but he delights in men who are truthful. ~ Proverbs 12:22 (NIV)

Most people I know wouldn't lie, because it's too easy to get caught, and then there's you-know-what to pay from those around you, and your reputation with people can end up in the toilet. But how many of us fear the admonition of the Lord over the you-know-what from other people? I just wonder...
I think too often we're more concerned about how our actions affect us rather than because it displeases God.
True, God is concerned about us and instructs us toward holy living, in part because He loves us and wants to prevent our destruction. But sin is detestable to Him, as much as sex crimes against children is detestable to us. It comes straight from the evil one, who exalts himself as a god and desires everything that God hates. God and the devil are in diametric opposition to one another...no two ways about it. Sin is the devil's trademark, and when we participate in sinful behavior, we become walking billboards for the devil's ad campaign.
Yes, lying is damaging to relationships, adultery can destroy marriages, and fraud and theft can result in jail time. But we need to get back to the root of our sin, as David did. When we participate in evil behavior, we strike at the heart of God.
Against you, you only, have I sinned
and done what is evil in your sight,
so that you are proved right when you speak
and justified when you judge. ~ Psalm 51:4
Punishment is a deterrent for most people, but God desires obedience from the heart...out of love, not out of fear of the repercussions. Let us draw close to God and allow His spirit to give us a burning desire for obedience to the Father, children who simply want to please Him.
Don't lazily slip back into those old grooves of evil, doing just what you feel like doing. You didn't know any better then; you do now. As obedient children, let yourselves be pulled into a way of life shaped by God's life, a life energetic and blazing with holiness. God said, "I am holy; you be holy."
~ 1 Peter 1:14-16 (The Message)
May God bless you richly as you seek after Him and what truly pleases Him!
Love,
Joelene
