Verse of the Day - Proverbs 4:23

Guard your heart above all else,
for it determines the course of your life.
~ Proverbs 4:23 (NLT)

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The problem with the heart is that it can lack discernment. And some people don't learn this for a very long time, until they've made mistake after mistake by allowing their heart to misguide them.
Dating can be dangerous ground if you don't guard your heart. Once you become hooked emotionally to someone, even if they're not right for you, it can be very difficult to disengage. And sometimes, you choose to close your eyes to all the red flags and forge ahead, letting your misguided heart guide you into a life of stress and heartache.
Our passion for 'whatever' seems to be driven by what we call our "heart". And your heart will determine the course of your life -- down a good path or a bad path. If your heart isn't stabilized by a wise mind, you can get into trouble.
God says that we need to love Him with all of our heart, soul, mind and strength (Matthew 22:37). If we are filled up completely with the passion for loving God, I believe that is a good way to guard your heart. Also, too, Paul says in Philippians 4 that when we cast all our cares on the Lord and release our hold on our anxiety about life issues, the peace of God that passes all understand will guard our hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.
So, when our hearts are set on God, His Spirit is in charge and will guide and direct us where He wants us to go. When we trust Him with our difficulties, His Spirit provides peace in our heart so that we don't make rash decisions that will lead us astray.
Bottom line is that if your heart is telling you to take a particular path in life, cross-check it with God. He loves you and wants the best for you. He'll let you know if your heart is out of line.
Love,
Joelene
