Oh, the joys of those who do not follow the advice of the wicked, or stand around with sinners, or join in with mockers. But they delight in the law of the Lord, meditating on it day and night. ~ Psalm 1:1-2 (NLT)

God's ways are the ways of peace and joy, and we understand that by reading His Word and getting to know Him. But we often allow the world to turn our head and get distracted, don't we? Just too many other attractive ideas and thoughts out there to sway our decisions...talk shows, magazines, TV, well-meaning friends. But if they are not centered on God, they are faulty and will short-circuit your walk in this life.
Falling in love with God's word is a beautiful thing. I challenge you to take the time to make that happen. Pick up your Bible and read for the pleasure of reading. You don't have to have your 10-lb concordance by your side. You don't have to get out any devotional books. Just read the book about God. See what He's about. Learn to love His heart. Embrace His holiness, His wisdom, His love.
I was talking to some friends about audio Bibles, because many of them are audio learners, and spend alot of time commuting in their cars. What an excellent way to absorb God's word! Please don't think there's any one way to take it in. Maybe for you, it's downloading to your iPod and listening while you exercise! Or subscribe to automatic emails that send you verses. But immersing ourselves in God's word is vital to fellowshiping with Him, to loving Him, to serving Him. Spend time during the day thinking about even just one verse that has come your way that day. What does it say about the character of God? or man's character? How should it impact me? What's my role?
Let His words roll around in that head of yours. While you commute, while you stand in line at the grocery store, while you do dishes or mow the lawn. Put God and His word on the top shelf of your mind and go there often...He deserves that position in your life. And you will know the joy and peace that all the other distractions of life cannot fulfill.
Let the words of my mouth and the thoughts of my heart be pleasing in Your eyes, O Lord, my Rock and the One Who saves me. ~ Psalm 19:14 (NLV)
